5 stars from a male reader! "A book of beauty and power. This extremely well-written book gives us many aspects: a coming of age story, information on marine life, Indian lore and wisdom, and a type of mystery. The author blends everything quite skillfully, and it keeps your attention as you go along. This is a relatively short book, and can be finished in one, or perhaps two, sittings, which is how I did it. The writing is quite powerful, and some of the descriptions rise almost to the level of poetry. It is a sad tale at times, but ultimately triumphant. This is the first book by this author that I have read, but I know that it will not be the last."
